Mediahuis news brands win at INMA Global Media Awards

Mediahuis news brands have won multiple awards at the 2026 INMA Global Media Awards. The awards were presented during a ceremony in Berlin. With seven nominations, Mediahuis was once again strongly represented on the international shortlist. In total, Mediahuis took home six awards: two first places, four second places, and one honourable mention.

The INMA Global Media Awards are prestigious international awards presented annually since 1937 by the International News Media Association (INMA). During the awards ceremony, winners were announced across 20 categories, divided into national and regional segments. These categories highlight innovation and best practices within news brands, with a focus on the effective use of media features, subscriptions, product development, advertising, and newsroom transformation.

The 2026 edition attracted a record 960 entries from 274 leading news media brands across 46 countries.

The awards were distributed as follows:

First place

Dagblad van het Noorden — De Ware Jacob received first place in the category ‘Best Use of Audio (Regional/Local)’.
A participatory investigative podcast that surpassed one million downloads and actively involved listeners in the reporting process.

Irish Independent — In Market won first place in the category ‘Best Idea to Grow Advertising Sales or Revenue’.
A first‑party, intent‑based advertising strategy delivering measurable performance and repeat revenue.

Second place

Nieuwsblad — The Green Playground received two second-place awards in the categories ‘Best Brand Awareness Campaign’ and ‘Best Public Relations or Community Service Campaign’.
A large‑scale community initiative, activating schools and families to make school playgrounds greener, driving strong app growth, advertising revenue and real policy impact.

De Telegraaf — Don’t Just Get the News. Get Me won second place in the category ‘Best Newsletter’.
A premium, journalist‑led newsletter model building strong personal connections and exceptional subscriber engagement.

Mediahuis België — Mediahuis and RouteYou: A Strategic Win-Win secured second place in the category ‘Best Initiative to Engage and Retain Subscribers’.
A bundled service adding lifestyle value to news subscriptions, significantly reducing churn.

Honourable mention

Irish Independent — Just Between Us received an honourable mention in the category ‘Best Use of Audio (National/International)’.
A multi‑format podcast breaking taboos around relationships, reaching new audiences through audio, video and social storytelling.
