Mediahuis is delighted to announce that the Irish Independent and Belfast Telegraph have been officially recognised as partners of The Trust Project, a global initiative that unites more than 300 leading news organisations in a shared commitment to transparency, trustworthiness and responsible journalism. Both titles have now been awarded the Trust Mark, acknowledging their ongoing dedication to the highest standards of ethical news reporting.
Alongside these Irish newsrooms, other Mediahuis brands,, Aachener Zeitung, and Mediahuis Luxembourg’s Luxemburger Wort and Luxembourg Times, have also received this important recognition, joining an international network of publishers committed to transparent and accountable journalism.
At a time when disinformation and polarisation complicate the media landscape, it is more crucial than ever for news brands to distinguish themselves through reliability, integrity and openness. By joining The Trust Project, our newsrooms reaffirm their ongoing commitment to journalism that earns the trust of readers, viewers and listeners, now and for the future.
Participating editorial teams have endorsed the eight Trust Indicators: principles developed globally in partnership with news organisations and the public. These indicators shine a light on who is responsible for a story, what sources are relied upon, how news content is produced and how the audience can provide feedback. This enhanced transparency supports news users in assessing credibility and further strengthens trust in independent journalism.
Caroline Swanenberg, Head of Sustainability at Mediahuis Group, said:
“As a media group, we aim to contribute to a strong, independent and responsible press that supports democratic society. For us, trustworthiness is not an empty concept, but a shared responsibility within every newsroom across our group. Our partnership with The Trust Project underscores our unwavering belief in independent journalism that informs, connects and is grounded in transparency and integrity.”
